Jodie Parker - Weekly Play Coordinator at Heritage Golf Links

I joined EWGA in 2002, when the LPGA had their event down at Eagles Landing.   My handicap has been stuck around the 15-17 range for years.  I just don’t seem to have enough time in my schedule, or money in the bank, to take the necessary lessons or put in the dedicated practice time it takes to get better.  But I’m cool with that, I just enjoy being outside on the course and hanging with my golf buddies.

This is a photo of my Dad and me at Stone Mountain…one of his favorite courses to play in Atlanta.  It’s funny how a lot of us EWGA women golfers were introduced to the game by our fathers.   I, too, have my father to thank.  As a kid I thought golf was such a silly game and at times found it quite boring; but my father loved the game.  I remember he would take us kids to the high school football field on the weekends and he’d hit long drives and let us hit 25 times to get to his tee shots.  We did this for hours and that’s how I learned to swing the club.  Thinking back on it, he had such patience with us. I’m so grateful to him for introducing me to a game that I now love and have a passion for just as he did.

As Father’s Day is upon us, I am a bit sad that my father is no longer with us and I don’t have the chance to play another round of golf with him.  But if heaven exists, I know he’s up there playing golf with his buddies and one day I’ll play a round with him again.  So I’d like to extend a special wish this Father’s Day to all the dads who took the time to teach their daughters to play golf…… And a special thanks to my POPS!

Please come out and play Heritage on Thursday nights, they treat us ladies very well and the course is in great shape.  We tee off around 6:00 pm, see you there!
