Janet Vandenbark - EWGA Member since 2009; Chapter Leadership Chair
Greetings EWGA Atlanta Members! I am Janet Vandenbark. It is my please to serve on the board this year as Chair of the Leadership Committee. One of the goals for my committee is to promote volunteer work in our organization. We have a number of opportunities for people to plug in, get involved, meet new people and have some fun! We would be thrilled to have people volunteer to help with:
- Preparation and registration at monthly events
- Website and communications
- Membership
I personally got reengaged with golf when I turned a "certain age" three years ago. My husband and I had just moved to Atlanta from Richmond, Virginia and I wanted to pick the game back up. Luckily, one of the weekend editions of the WSJ had a great article on EWGA. I googled EWGA for a local chapter, joined, got plugged into some clinics and weekly play (when it is not too hot!). The organization makes it so easy to play! I am not sure I would have started
playing again without it.
In my professional life, I have been in the financial services business for over 25 years and currently serve as Regional VP for Ameriprise Financial Services overseeing our business operations for the Southeast. My travel schedule does not afford me the chance to plug into the evening play during the week but weekend play at Stone Mountain, St Marlo and now CCR are great for me. Breaking100 is one of my many passwords so that can give you an idea of my level of play!
From a leadership perspective, one of the best books I have read in that last couple of years about golf is Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott's book, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose. The foreword is by Annika Sorenstam and it is about Golf 54 - shooting a 54 on a par 72 course. It's a great read and I have used the book for leadership development for my team - terrific business applications!
If you would like to volunteer for chapter activities, you can reach me at leadership@ewgatlanta.com. I look forward to seeing you on some of our monthly events!
