Nancy Robinson - EWGA Member since 2008; Chapter Chair for Weekly Play
I’m Nancy Ott, the EWGA Atlanta Weekly Play Chair. By day I'm a Solutions Architect/Project Manager for JDSU, which means I work with our telecommunication customers to determine software solutions for their business processes. By (some) weekday evenings and weekends I pretend to be a golfer. I have a love-love/hate relationship with golf—I love it twice as much as I hate it! And at times, I really, really hate it, so that’s a lot of love! I got talked into trying it in 1999,
as an EWGA weekly league guest at North Fulton Golf Course, and ever since, I’ve been hooked!
I joined the EWGA, took some lessons and began playing regularly for a couple of years until the weekly league moved to Bobby Jones Golf Course. Thinking I wouldn’t be able to get to Bobby Jones for weekly play because of distance and traffic, I did not rejoin EWGA, but played at most once a week for the next few years. And I learned my lesson: you can’t improve at golf unless you play at least 2 or 3 times a week. I realized that the only way I would increase my frequency of play and find new victims, I mean players to play with, would be to rejoin EWGA. So that’s what I did in 2008. It was the best thing I ever did for my game and the bonus I got was meeting a lot of interesting and fun women golfers who were as hooked on the game as I was. It’s been an absolute blast!
As chair of Weekly Play, my responsibilities are to train and support the Weekly Play coordinators, track members' participation for Players Cup points, develop and manage the Weekly Play schedule, oversee the planning and implementation of new and existing Weekly Play leagues and, of course, actively participate in Weekly Play (this one is easy!). My goals for this year are to:
- increase the overall number of Weekly Play rounds played by EWGA members from last year - 103 members played 866 rounds
- continue to provide Weekly Play leagues every evening Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays and Sundays so that golfers from all over the Atlanta metro area and of all skill levels will come on out and play.
Of course I'll need your help to reach my goals. And your part will be easy: just come out and play in one or more of the EWGA Weekly Play leagues. If you're a player who is somewhat new to the game, we have 4 excellent Weekly Play courses to help you gain confidence in your game. If you're an intermediate or more advanced player, we offer 7 great Weekly Play courses that are challenging and fun. If you're not an EWGA member, you can always join us at one or more of the Weekly Play leagues as a guest and try them out before joining EWGA. The best part of EWGA membership and Weekly Play is the chance to meet and play with other women who love this game as much as you do. So come on out and join us!
